Was starting to catch up after Golden Week wildness--and then got derailed by the sudden death of my monitor. Dragged a used replacement back from Akihabara yesterday...but had the type of connector wrong (the hazards of having an early G4!). There's nothing available locally, and next time I can get down to Tokyo will be Saturday. So, am currently only able to get online at work. Have three event reports underway; won't be up as soon as I'd hoped, but will shoehorn in what I can during lunch and after hours. *sigh*
Good luck getting things up and running again!
Why does computer equipment have such a short lifespan? Hope you'll be able to get things ironed out soon! :)
At least the poor deceased flat-screen didn't have loudly popping smoky tubes like its CRT predecessor...!
Wow, sorry to hear...one dang thing after another, huh? There SHOULD be an adapter available to let you hook that monitor up, but given all things Apple it might end up cheaper just finding another monitor that has the right pluggie thingie...
OTOH, I know this doesn't matter so much now given where you're at, but I thought you'd get a giggle out of this..http://www.animeondvd.com/reviews2/disc_reviews/7118.php
Yep. Ashita no Joe comes to America, and it's a Chinese company doing the deed. How bizarre is that?
As I know you are god of Joe Knowledge, did TMS do their own dub of the Joe movie for International sales ala Lupin III-Mystery of Mamo (a thing they STILL to this day claim does not exist...humph.)? Because I just can't see Tai Seng ponying up the bucks for a new dub...
And I am an inconsiderate jerk for tossing this your way when you're computer crippled...sorry...but I had to tell you while it was fresh :)
back on line... Thanks very much for the scoop on "Champion Joe"! Had no
idea it existed...will order it from Amazon pronto! AFAIK, TMS didn't do an English dub of either of the "Ashita no Joe" animated movies. But the cover of the DVD uses art from both
"Joe" and "Joe 2"...and so did the promotional materials that Almi Television was using in 1984 to try to sell their "Rocky Joe" TV series dub. (They were selling it as one series, and although they couldn't tell me for sure, I suspect their series was the first series' episodes up until Rikiishi died, and then "Joe 2" episodes from then on. [A chunk of the story after Rikiishi died--the arrival of Carlos Rivera--was actually covered in both series.]) Although Almi wasn't able to get their "Rocky Joe" series broadcast in the U.S., they sold it to several countries in Europe at the very least. Since the first "Joe" movie was compiled from the first series (although entirely rescored), it probably wouldn't be hard to snag the needed audio from English-dubbed episodes. I've got Almi's first English episode; it'll be interesting to see if the voice actors in Tai Seng's movie are the same. Thanks again for the heads-up--I appreciate it!
you're very welcome! I figured the Gods would whomp me big time with some bad mojo if I didn't pass that on to you.
So, So, Rocky Joe DID get some syndi after all? Just couldn't find a home in the US. I would be very, very interested in hearing your thoughts then, if the Tai Seng DVD is using that dub. NOBODY here in the States, all the big know-it-alls who claim to 'deep knowledge' even know that...HAW HAW HAW oh god, I'm so old now... :)

ADC connection? I had the same happen recently and fortunately had a spare monitor of the same vintage. I'm screwed next time one dies though.
Anyway! I wanted to relay that I think your Anison site is awesome. I just spontaneously started the process to get tickets (with some luck) for the AJF event on 17th August and randomly found your site afterwards when I was looking for more information. The schedule is such a great idea - looks like we are going to miss most preplanned events this time but I'll definitely be checking in on your list next time I put together a trip.
I'm impressed by what you've achieved. I've been into Anison a while in a quiet way and not long ago got my partner hooked - still debating whether my future in laws will ever speak to me again if I have Ai Wo Torimodose playing when I get married...
Anyway, thanks for the site and keep having fun!
Yikes, very sorry for the delay in this reply! Thanks so much--that's wonderful to hear that the site might be useful for you. Hope you get great AJF tickets! Do you have any certain favorite performers or songs?

Thank you for the reply - I love reading about your adventures.
I received my tickets for AJF already so now I'm excited and ready to go! My partner's been into Ichirou Mizuki in a huge way ever since discovering him and we're both big fans of Jam Project. I suppose my gateway into looking behind the music at the performers was Masami Okui in the 90s. Yet another person I'd love to see a live show from.
Favourite songs for me have to be Cutie Honey and Ai Wo Torimodose. The Godannar themes are also firm favourites now.
